For those of you who love to Salsa El Cantinero will be a lovely venue. There's a mixture of cultures who enjoy coming to El Cantinero. The restaurant/bar/salsa venue offers a nice (but small) area for dancing Salsa, Bachata, Merengue. For those who love to Reggaton and Zouk there is another room in the back of the restaurant.
This R&B, hip hop joint is a cosy retro bar close to the Albert Cuypstreet. The interior design is seventies style inspired with amazing wallpaper designs. Good to come here for a nice and simple lunch or choose an international dish for your evening meal. The dinner menu is adapted every two weeks to keep it lively and fresh. Check the website for their menus to see their very reasonably priced dishes.
There are various DJ's who keep the place sounding hip and groovy, so come here and feel right at home.
A small but very cosy café located in the Jordaan area of Amsterdam, quite close to Central Station. It's mainly frequented by regulars and you will see quite a number of hip dudes and dudettes hanging out. You can just relax and chill all afternoon and evening and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, eating, drinking and talking. The terrace outside is very small, but inside you will be comfortable sitting at one of the wobbly tables or on a chair by the bar.
The food is quite good, although I don't really recommend the deep fried cheese snacks (warm bittergarnituur). If you are not impressed with the menu, you can also skip next door and have a look at the restaurant's dinner menu.
This cafe/bar is a relaxing venue to have a simple but tasty breakfast or lunch or sip cappuccinos with friends while having a good conversation. It's especially nice when you can enjoy the various art exhibitions and wall paintings by local artists on display within the venue. These change monthly, so it's almost like walking into a new place every time you visit it.
It's mainly frequented by regulars, but a new face is always more than welcome. Don't worry about overpricing as you will get your money's worth in this place.
Don't forget to visit on Saturday's as they will put aside the loungy chairs to make some room for classic techno and house tunes for your entertainment.
This nightclub is one of the more luxurious high society clubs in town that exudes extravagance and chic. The owner Casper Reinders tried to combine his love for Asian art with trendy music and design. You will be surprised to see the intricate details and sense of style he added to the interior, a real treat, for those who love to be surrounded by beautiful things. The ceiling with 12,000 lights is amaaazingly spectacular!
If you like urban mixes, you can enjoy a varying range of DJs who play their tunes for your pleasure. Sundays are usually good to enjoy the arrival of international DJs if you like to hear some funkier beats.
Cover charge and drinks are at a quite reasonable price considering this style of venue. But dress up to get in and... be prepared to queue.
Great place to hang out if you want to chill and relax. Their menu offers enough interesting dishes to make the Sunday brunch guests work up a great appetite. Come here if you like Asian cuisine because they serve some nice noodle dishes and Thai food.
I personally like their big brown sandwiches with lots of fresh veggies. It comes with grand presentation on large square dishes, which makes it all a very classy, enjoyable and exciting lunching experience.
If you prefer to hang out and drink a few cocktails, you can stay for late afternoon lounging and order some side dishes if you get a bit peckish.
Cool club for hip hop and R&B lovers. Varying sounds on different nights. Make sure you dress up a bit, it's quite hip and trendy. Make sure you don't arrive too early. The party starts quite late, so hop in for some after midnight fun.
The Mansion is a very trendy hangout for clubbers who prefer chique and sophisticated. The venue counts 4 cocktail bars and two Chinese restaurants. In the basement you will find the DimSum Club, where you can eat and listen to good music at the same time.
The ground floor features 4 trendy bars where you can indulge in a true cocktail extravaganza. On the first floor you will find the more upscale Chinese restaurant where you can choose duck, pork, noodles and other fabulous exotic dishes from the menu. A bit on the pricey side, but hey. The decor is over-the-top-chique with ostrich leather on the walls and frescoes on the ceiling. Definitely dress up and you may expect a cover charge on some nights.
The Sugar Factory is a very trendy hangout for cool clubbers who enjoy nightlife and a little bit of creativity as well. There are some interesting and eccentric people who have in common that they enjoy good music that is being performed by some of the best DJ's in the scene.
Decor is nice and trendy, drinks are average priced and you may expect a cover charge.
